I am an Afro-Caribbean Afro-Latinx licensed Certified Nurse Midwife of Panamanian and Jamaican descent. I see Midwifery as my calling. I was called to do this work after the birth of my Godson, whose birth was attended by a Midwife nearly 10 years ago. I earned my Master of Science in Nurse Midwifery from Columbia University School of Nursing in October 2016.

I have been practicing as a full-scope Midwife in NYC since 2016. I am also an instructor in the current Graduate Midwifery Program at Columbia. I am passionate about educating more culturally competent full-scope midwives. Over the years, I have learned that, if we are intentional, we can work to combat the racial and ethnic disparities in maternal morbidity and mortality. This is my impetus for starting Mother Ocean Midwifery, providing homebirth midwifery services.

Mother Ocean Midwifery pays homage to Yemayá. Yemayá is an Orisha, the Yoruba goddess of the ocean and pregnant women. She is recognized in Candomblé and Santeria folk religions in Afro-Caribbean and Afro-Latinx cultures as well. She is the Orisha of fertility as well as bodies of water. Her domain is all waters, including the bag of water inside of the womb. Yemayá is called upon by pregnant wombmen for safety. She is the protector of wombmen and the ruler of fertility, childbirth, and healing. Yemayá protects the mother and her child and ensures a safe birth.
