About
Kristen and Cara are midwives at Southern Adirondack Midwifery who share a deep passion for supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Kristen’s path into birth work began after training as a massage therapist and was solidified following the birth of her first child in 2002, leading her to become a DONA-trained doula in 2005, complete nursing school in 2011, and earn her Master’s degree in midwifery from Frontier Nursing University, after which she has practiced in the Capital District since 2018 and attended over 500 births in home and hospital settings, with informed consent at the core of her care. Cara’s lifelong interest in birth began in childhood and deepened after the birth of her first child; she spent six years as a registered nurse at Burdett Birth Center in Troy before following her calling to home birth in 2021, serving as a primary birth assistant during midwifery school and transitioning into her role as a midwife at Southern Adirondack Midwifery, while also offering additional postpartum support as a Certified Lactation Counselor. Together, they are dedicated to providing informed, compassionate, and family-centered care and look forward to serving their community for many years to come.
