Birth rearranged me. It brought me face-to-face with my limits and then pushed me past them. It wasn’t pain-free, but it was potent. Through that rite of passage, I became an alchemized version of myself- not just as a mother, but as a person who had touched something sacred out in the ether. In that liminal space, between contractions and expansion, I found something I never wanted to let go of. And in some way, I knew I had to stay close to it for the rest of my life. That’s how I became a midwife.
