Sorayya is a Licensed Midwife (CM, LM) and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) dedicated to providing personalized, evidence-based care throughout pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and beyond. She earned her Master of Science in Midwifery with honors from SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, where she received the Lily Hsia Midwifery Student Scholarship Award, and is currently licensed in both New York and Zanzibar.

Since 2019, Sorayya has cared for families throughout New York City, providing homebirth, lactation, and gynecology services. She believes that exceptional midwifery begins where families feel most comfortable—in their own homes. By providing all visits at home, she fosters deeper relationships, individualized support, and a more holistic understanding of each family's needs.

In addition to her work with Taarab Birth & Midwifery, Sorayya serves as a per diem midwife at Holistic Birthing Center NYC, Brooklyn's busiest freestanding birth center, where she provides intrapartum care alongside fellow community birth midwives in support of safe and nurturing, physiologic birth. She also serves as a clinical consultant at WAJAMAMA Family and Women's Health Center in Zanzibar, Tanzania, working as a midwife, educator, and preceptor. Her global health work includes collaborating with Zanzibar's Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and other NGOs to improve maternal and newborn health outcomes.

Sorayya's approach to midwifery is rooted in compassion, respect, and evidence-based care. She partners with clients to ensure they feel heard, informed, and empowered to make decisions that align with their values and unique circumstances. She believes that safe, respectful maternity care is a fundamental human right and is committed to providing the kind of care that can positively shape families for generations.

Sorayya is fluent in English and Spanish and is the mother of three children, who continue to be her greatest teachers. They remind her daily of the importance of patience, curiosity, gratitude, and unconditional love.
